The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) represents more than 31,000 members in 235 chapters throughout the world, working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education and certification programs. The association fosters development and growth of fundraising professionals and promotes high ethical standards in the fundraising profession. For 25 years the South Dakota AFP chapter has been the standard-bearer for professionalism in fundraising. Our members have access to a rich network of people with varied experience and perspectives.

South Dakota AFP earned the 2014 Ten Star Award.  This is the second consecutive year the Chapter has achieved this distinction.  The Chapter Ten Star award honors those chapters who have accomplished many of the key objectives outlined in the Strategic Plan.  This Award encourages chapters to perform specific activities designed to increase professionalism within fundraising and public awareness of the importance of philanthropy.  Congratulations to the Chapter!

Nov 6 - Donor Relations and Development Coordinator
POSITION: Donor Relations and Development Coordinator DEPARTMENT: Dakotas United Methodist Foundation REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Minimum, 2-3 years of experience in related field. Experience working within a non-profit development or advancement organization strongly preferred. Emphasis on experience working in donor relations, donor stewardship, event planning and communications within a development or advancement environment. Should have an understanding of endowment funds and the awarding process. Prior experience using Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint and familiarity with Donor software preferred or other donor database including events management modules. Strong communication, organizational and time management skills focused on planning, implementation and collaboration. Personal Skills and Qualifications: Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately in written and oral communications. Excellent writing skills are essential. Experience in development and/or working with volunteers. Must be creative and have excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills. Must understand the importance of building life-long relationships between donors, the Foundation, Dakotas United Methodist Conference, and UM Churches within the Conference. Serve as an advocate within the Foundation for donors, clergy, and committee members. Must be able to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines and pay attention to details and accuracy. Must have experience working with diverse individuals and knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets. An understanding of database segmentation, prospect identification and professional fundraising experience strongly preferred. Professional appearance and demeanor required.
